The Villas

For the last couple of years hubby's AAHRA Convention has been held in Panama City Beach, Florida. We were housed in The Villas at Edgewater with our balcony overlooking the golf course.

We arrived on Sunday and met with our friends, Wayne & Sandra, for dinner at Uncle Ernie's. We had a lovely time catching up with each of our family news.

Monday mornings are reserved for the golf tournament. For the past several years Glenn & his partners have placed second in the tournament. Not this year...THEY WON!!!
               Winning Team...Jeff~Glenn~Wayne

The theme for this year's Monday night dinner and dance was the "Wizard of Oz". Not many people dress up any more to compliment the theme. We don't. Dinner and dancing for the evening.

Throughout the convention during breaks names are drawn for prizes. Each housing authority that attends the convention brings a gift. Sponsors also supply gifts. Convention attendees' names are placed in a large container where these names are drawn.

My name was drawn, and I was the winner of an hour spa treatment from Edgewater. Our friend, Carolyn, was a winner too. She won 4 18-hole golf rounds at The Hombre. Knowing hubby loves to golf, I exchanged my winning gift with her. Hubby was happy, and Carolyn was too.

While Glenn is attending meetings, the beach is mine.

I love to watch birds at the beach.

These little birds were pecking the ground for food.

The first photo shows beach landscape. The far black speck on the right of this photo is a bird. See his close-up on the right.

Tuesday is the day of the convention's Scholarship Luncheon. Nineteen scholarship winners were the recipients of $2,500 each. Dothan's Abby White was a winner.

Wednesday evening is set aside for dinner and housing authority awards.. Dothan Housing Authority was the recipient of two awards this year. Glenn and his Section 8 Coordinator, Esther.

A presentation of $750,000 was made by AHARM Board of Directors to the AHARM members. This gift contribution helps the members with their premiums. AHARM Board Directors present were Carolyn (VP), Shalor (P), Jeff & Philip (Gallagher Reps) and Glenn.

We leave for home tomorrow morning. Another good time with Alabama Housing Authority friends.

Backburner Project

It seems as if projects always get placed on a back burner because there are always projects one is needing or wanting to do. Lots of time & work involved to such a manner that one can always find an excuse to begin said project.

Not this time!

After a remake of a bedroom, a bathroom and garage ceiling redo, I felt this was the perfect time to accomplish the Garage Project.

And I love it!

When someone hurts...

...and is wrenched
with a broken-heart,
I hurt for them and
begin bathing them
in constant thoughts of prayer.

A physically and emotionally drained individual slides to the floor weakened by her life decisions. Decisions made by the heart through loving guidance from the Father. Decisions for the good. Decisions that were necessary.

Heart poured out...empty.
Strength used...weak.
Mind hazy...blank.

Lord God, I come before you at this very moment standing in for my friend who is of great faith & trust but "spent" beyond measure. I come on her behalf to ask for abundant peace. Peace for her soul, for rest & for rebuilding of her strength in you.

Yes, You are the God of Strength & Peace.

Yesterday began a journey of people walking in and out of my house. They were doing it again today and with a few more feet marching to the "paint" brush. I am having some areas of our home painted.

While they were busy and hard at work, so was I.

Years ago (2008 to be exact) I searched a website to record recipes and found a wonderful site to assist my needs...Tastebook.com. I entered favorite recipes and then ordered a few books for me and for gifts. They turned out awesome. Picture below shows the front of the hardback cover. (Chocolate cake was good too!)

As the men worked, I sat at the kitchen table and entered some more recipes into my file. I hope one day to eventually have all my recipes in this book.

Now if I just liked cooking a WHOLE lot!

A Song, a Surprise and...

a WEDDING.

On Sunday evening, July 21st, I was practicing the song that I was going to sing during the worship hour. There was perhaps another 30 minutes before worship even began.

I slipped from the sanctuary to the children's department for  just a few minutes. As I returned and was settling into my pew...(Glenn was out of town.)..., I noticed Garrett and Hannah across the room. Now this is a first for them so I went over to see them.

With a short conversation, their moving over to sit with me, Garrett tells me that he and Hannah had visited Brother Jim that very afternoon.

Garrett and Hannah have decided to get married.....on October 12th of this year.

So as you can see, we have begun planning a very small wedding...family & friends. Yes, I am a detailed person, visual, and a list-maker.

as I wake up every morning, i am so thankful that God blesses me with another day. i pray for his guidance in the plan  He has for my life. i pray i would be obedient to His plan.

some years ago i read the book "A Thousand Gifts" by Ann Voskamp. she encourages one to name your blessings. i journal my "blessings" in this book i own.

our church will host a Tables of Love event the end of September, and i am hosting a table. the verse for my table is Ephesians 5:20.

i will invite seven ladies to share my table with me. my table will  help me to encourage one to "count your blessings". i want to share how "naming" the blessings has brought me joy.

my gift to the ladies at the table will be a journal book for their "naming" of their blessings.

Enjoy the little things in life.
